It is estimated that 5.8 million people in America are living with fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a condition that causes widespread musculoskeletal pain. Researchers have not found the exact cause of fibromyalgia. However, they have found that genetics, infections and physical or emotional trauma can increase the risk of fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia has a tendency to run in families. Researchers believe that genetic mutations may contribute to fibromyalgia. Infections have been shown to trigger or worsen fibromyalgia. Additionally, people who are stressed due to physical or emotional trauma are more likely to develop fibromyalgia.
