Blue light therapy in Coral Springs
Full-body LED blue light to support clearer skin, daytime energy and a healthy daily rhythm — a relaxing, drug-free complement to the rest of your care, offered alongside our red and near-infrared light suite.
Quick answer
Blue light therapy delivers specific visible-light wavelengths from a full-body LED bed. Blue light is widely used to target the bacteria behind acne breakouts, and bright-light exposure during the day supports alertness, mood and a steadier circadian rhythm. At The Spine and Wellness Center it is part of our light therapy suite with red and near-infrared, used in the Regenerate phase of the 4R Method.
What is blue light therapy and how does it work?
Blue light therapy uses targeted visible-light wavelengths at the blue end of the spectrum, delivered by an LED panel or full-body bed. It is drug-free and non-invasive — you rest under the light with eye protection on, and there is nothing to apply, take or recover from afterward.
Blue light works differently from the red and near-infrared light we use for recovery. Red wavelengths reach into tissue and act on the mitochondria. Blue wavelengths are absorbed closer to the surface, where they interact with light-sensitive compounds in skin bacteria, and they are also the part of the spectrum that the eye’s light-sensing cells use to set the body’s daily clock.
That gives blue light two distinct jobs: a skin job, where it targets the bacteria involved in breakouts, and a rhythm job, where well-timed daytime exposure supports alertness, mood and a more consistent sleep-wake cycle. Because our LED suite also includes red and near-infrared, a session can be tailored to whichever goal you are after.

What can blue light help with?
Patients in Coral Springs and Parkland add blue light to their routine for four main reasons. Each has a different level of evidence behind it, and we are upfront about that.
- Clearer skin. Blue light is a well-established, non-invasive option for mild to moderate acne; it targets the bacteria that contribute to breakouts without medication.
- Daytime energy and alertness. Bright light exposure during the day helps many people feel more awake and focused — a natural lift without stimulants.
- Mood through the darker months. Light therapy is widely used to support mood when the days are short, even in South Florida’s milder winters.
- A steadier sleep-wake rhythm. Well-timed light during the day supports a healthy circadian rhythm, which many people connect to falling asleep more easily and sleeping more consistently.
Timing is the key for the rhythm benefits. Blue light in the morning or midday reinforces the body’s ‘daytime’ signal; the same light late in the evening works against sleep, which is why we schedule rhythm-focused sessions earlier in the day and encourage patients to dim screens after dark.
Blue light does not treat spine or joint pain directly. Patients working through lower back pain or neck pain use red light therapy for pain relief for that job, and add blue light for skin, energy or sleep.
What is a session like?
A session is quick and comfortable. We set you up with eye protection, explain the light setting and the timing, and let you relax on the LED bed. Most people describe it as a few quiet minutes of calm. There is no heat to speak of, no sound and no downtime, so blue light pairs easily with an adjustment, a massage or a red light session on the same visit.
- Goal check. Skin, energy, mood or rhythm — the goal decides the wavelength mix and the time of day we schedule you.
- Eye protection on. Provided for every session; blue light is bright and your eyes should never be exposed directly.
- Rest under the light. Sessions are short — nothing to do but relax.
- Back to your day. No recovery, no redness, nothing to wash off.

Where does blue light therapy fit in the 4R Method?
Every plan at The Spine and Wellness Center follows the 4R Method — Repair, Rebuild, Regenerate, Refine. Blue light is a Regenerate-phase tool: it belongs to the stage where we move from fixing a painful region to elevating the whole system.
R3 · Regenerate — energy, sleep and resilience
In Regenerate (about 2 visits a week for 2+ months) the goal is better energy, sleep and recovery across the board. Blue light sessions for rhythm and alertness sit alongside whole-body red light therapy for tissue recovery, IHHT oxygen therapy for mitochondrial conditioning and BrainTap for stress and sleep. Together they address the things that make a corrected spine easier to keep — rest, recovery and a calmer nervous system.
R4 · Refine — an easy habit to keep
Many patients keep a light session in their Refine-phase routine, scheduled with the monthly tune-up. For skin goals, consistency over weeks matters more than any single session; for rhythm goals, regular daytime exposure is what keeps the body’s clock steady.

Learn moreIs blue light therapy safe? Evidence and precautions
Blue light therapy is non-invasive and well tolerated when the eyes are protected. The LED bed produces visible light only — no ultraviolet — so it does not tan or burn the skin. The evidence is strongest for skin: a systematic review and meta-analysis in the National Library of Medicine found blue-light treatment reduced acne lesion counts compared with controls (PubMed).
For mood and rhythm, the National Institute of Mental Health describes bright-light therapy as an established approach for seasonal patterns of low mood (NIMH), and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute explains how light exposure sets the body’s internal clock (NHLBI). We frame these as support for general wellness, not treatment of a diagnosed condition.
When we hold off or adjust
- Photosensitizing medications (certain antibiotics, retinoids, some acne treatments) — tell us before your first session.
- Light-sensitive conditions such as lupus or porphyria, or a history of light-triggered migraine.
- Eye conditions — eye protection is provided and required; let us know about any retinal condition.
- Bipolar disorder — bright-light therapy should be coordinated with your treating physician.
- Evening sessions are avoided for rhythm goals, because late blue light can delay sleep.
Blue light is a complementary wellness session and not a replacement for dermatology, sleep medicine or mental-health care. If you have a persistent skin, sleep or mood concern, we will say so and help you find the right clinician.
What to expect at your first two visits
Even for a wellness service, we measure before we treat, because most people who come for light sessions also have a spine or joint story we should know about.
Visit one — we measure (and usually begin care)
- A conversation about your goals — skin, energy, sleep, mood — and your health history, including medications that affect light sensitivity.
- A hands-on structural exam of posture and range of motion, so pain or tension that disturbs sleep is not overlooked.
- Surface EMG and thermal scanning along the spine (the MyoVision sEMG scan), which often shows the guarding behind ‘I just can’t relax.’
- Digital X-rays, when indicated, if the exam points to a structural problem.
Visit two — your findings and plan
Dr. Jared Cohen, DC reviews the findings and maps a plan across the 4R phases, including whether blue light is a useful addition and when in the day to schedule it. Treatment begins on this visit. If pain is part of your picture, start with the 60-second spine assessment.

Frequently asked questions
What is blue light therapy used for?
People commonly use it to support clearer skin, daytime energy and alertness, mood through the darker months, and a healthy daily sleep-and-wake rhythm. At our Coral Springs clinic it is part of a full-body LED suite with red and near-infrared light, so sessions can be tailored to your goal.
Does blue light therapy hurt or damage the skin?
No. The LED bed produces visible light only, with no ultraviolet, so it does not tan, burn or age the skin. Sessions are short and comfortable. Eye protection is provided and required, because blue light is bright and should never be viewed directly.
How often should I do a session?
It depends on your goal. Skin goals usually need regular sessions over several weeks; rhythm and energy goals work best with consistent daytime exposure. Many patients fold a session into their Regenerate-phase visits, about twice a week, and keep one in their monthly Refine routine.
Can blue light help me sleep?
Indirectly, yes — when it is timed in the morning or midday. Daytime blue light strengthens the body's 'awake' signal, which helps the evening 'sleep' signal land on schedule. Blue light late in the evening does the opposite, which is why we schedule rhythm sessions early and suggest dimming screens after dark.
Is blue light the same as red light therapy?
No. Red and near-infrared light reach deeper into tissue and act on the mitochondria, which is why we use them for inflammation, recovery and energy. Blue light acts at the surface and on the eye's clock-setting cells, which suits skin, alertness and rhythm goals. Our suite offers both, often in one visit.
