Quick answer

The closest clinic for measured, non-surgical back pain treatment near Sunrise is The Spine and Wellness Center at 5675 Coral Ridge Drive, Coral Springs, about 20 minutes from Sunrise. The first visit is an exam with surface EMG, thermal scanning and X-rays when indicated; the second is your report of findings, where treatment — often Triton DTS spinal decompression — begins.

Why Sunrise patients choose us for back pain treatment

When someone from Sunrise calls about back pain treatment in Sunrise, three things usually settle the decision to come to Coral Springs instead of somewhere closer.

  • The drive is easier than it sounds. It is about 20 minutes straight up the Sawgrass Expressway, and parking is free, right outside the door. We see patients from Sawgrass Mills, Amerant Bank Arena and Welleby Park every week.
  • Evening and early slots. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday run until 7:00 pm; Wednesday afternoons and Friday mornings round out the week. Most Sunrise patients can fit visits around work and school runs.
  • We understand who lives in Sunrise. Our typical Sunrise patients are Sunrise families, hockey fans and arena staff from Amerant Bank Arena, retail and hospitality workers on their feet all day at Sawgrass Mills, and cyclists from Markham Park — and the plan reflects those loads, not a template.

Why does back pain keep coming back?

Effective back pain treatment in Sunrise begins with a simple question most clinics skip: which structure is actually hurt? The lower back is a stack of five vertebrae, the discs between them, the small facet joints behind each disc and the sacroiliac joints that tie the spine to the pelvis. Any of them can produce an ache that feels like ‘my whole back’.

At The Spine and Wellness Center, about 20 minutes from Sunrise, we see the same three culprits over and over: a bulging or herniated disc loading a nerve root, inflamed facet joints that lock the spine in the morning, and a sacroiliac joint that drifts out of balance and produces one-sided low back and hip pain. Most people have a mix, which is why a plan that only stretches or only adjusts tends to give short-lived relief.

Dr. Jared Cohen, DC has led our clinical team since we opened in 2005, and the approach has not changed: measure the spine, identify the generator of the pain, and treat it in the right order. If you want a broader overview before you visit, start with our main back pain treatment guide.

What is back pain treatment in Sunrise like at The Spine and Wellness Center?

We treat the back in four phases — the 4R Method: Repair, Rebuild, Regenerate and Refine. Each phase has a job, a frequency and a duration, and your report of findings on visit two tells you exactly where you start and how long each stage should take.

  1. Repair. Take pressure off the irritated disc, joint or nerve. Non-surgical spinal decompression on the Triton DTS table for disc and sciatica patterns, precise adjustments for locked facet and SI joints, cold laser and ultrasound for inflammation. 3–5 visits a week for 4–8 weeks.
  2. Rebuild. Correct the structure that caused it — lumbar curve, pelvic balance and the deep core — with corrective care, physical therapy and Graston soft-tissue work. 2–3 visits a week for 8–16 weeks.
  3. Regenerate. Support tissue recovery and energy with red light, PEMF and IHHT oxygen therapy. About twice a week for two months or more.
  4. Refine. A brief tune-up roughly once a month so the correction holds through golf season, travel and desk work.

The sequence is what makes the result durable. Pain relief that stops at Repair leaves the cause in place; correction attempted before Repair rarely holds on a guarded spine. We do them in order, and we re-scan along the way so you can see the change, not just feel it.

Which back pain patterns do we see most from Sunrise?

The pattern of your pain says a lot before any image does. These are the four we see most often in Sunrise patients, and how each tends to show up:

  • Disc bulge or herniation: worse sitting, bending forward, coughing or sneezing; a deep ache that spreads into the buttock. When the disc presses on a nerve it becomes sciatica — pain, tingling or numbness down the back of one leg.
  • Facet joint irritation: sharp, localized pain that is worse standing, arching backward or first thing in the morning. The ‘I can’t stand up straight’ back.
  • Sacroiliac joint: one-sided pain just off-center at the base of the spine that flares standing up from a chair, rolling over in bed or climbing stairs.
  • Muscle strain: a broad, tight ache after lifting or a long drive that improves over days — but recurring strains usually mean a joint or disc underneath is the real driver.

Leg symptoms matter most. Numbness, tingling or weakness in the leg or foot means a nerve is involved, and nerve pain responds best to decompression rather than more stretching. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, most acute low back pain improves with conservative care, and surgery is generally reserved for progressive neurological deficits or pain that fails other treatment (NINDS, Back Pain). Our job is to be the care that works first.

What happens at your first two visits?

We measure before we treat, so your plan is built on your actual structure rather than a guess. Here is how the first two appointments run for Sunrise patients:

Visit one — we measure (and usually begin care)

  1. A real conversation. Where it hurts, what makes it worse, what you have tried, and what you want to get back to.
  2. A hands-on structural exam. Posture, lumbar and hip range of motion, orthopedic tests that isolate the pain generator, nerve-tension tests and neurological screening (reflexes, strength, sensation).
  3. Surface EMG and thermal scanning. A painless scan along the spine that shows where muscles are guarding and where nerve irritation is likely — objective, and re-scannable to track progress.
  4. Digital X-rays, when indicated. Disc spacing, curvature, alignment and wear. We also review any MRI you already have.

Visit two — findings and plan

Everything explained in plain English with your scans and images in front of you, mapped to the four phases of the 4R Method: what we found, what we recommend, and how long it should take. Your full plan starts here — and in most cases care already began on visit one. For a head start, take the 60-second spine assessment before you drive in from Sunrise.

What helps back pain at home — and when to see a doctor instead

Your plan will include the right movements at the right stage, but a few principles apply to almost every lumbar spine from day one:

  • Motion is lotion. Gentle, frequent walking keeps the discs hydrated and the facets moving. Bed rest beyond a day or two usually makes things worse.
  • Sitting is the quiet load. Desk work and long drives keep the discs under constant pressure. Stand and move for two minutes every 30–45 minutes.
  • Protect the hinge. Lift with the load close and the hips doing the work; avoid rounding the lower back under weight.
  • Sleep unloaded. Side-lying with a pillow between the knees, or on your back with a pillow under them.
  • Don’t force stretches early. Deep forward bends on an irritated disc can aggravate leg symptoms.

And know the warning signs that need a doctor today rather than a chiropractor: loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the groin or inner thighs, rapidly progressing leg weakness, back pain with fever or unexplained weight loss, or pain after a serious fall or accident. Please see a doctor or urgent care today if any of those apply. For everything else — the aching, the sciatica, the disc you were told might need surgery — see our guides to herniated discs and lower back pain relief, then call us.

What patients say

We do not have a published review from a Sunrise patient yet, so here is one from a Coral Springs patient — the same clinic and the same team you would see:

“Professional, friendly, highly knowledgeable and trustworthy. After years of chronic pain, their precise adjustments resolved the issue and restored proper alignment. Highly recommend.”

Frequently asked questions

Can back pain be treated without surgery or medication?

In most cases, yes. The majority of back pain — including many herniated discs and sciatica cases — improves with conservative care. Non-surgical spinal decompression, precise adjustments and targeted rehab address the disc, joints and stabilizing muscles together. Surgery is generally reserved for progressive neurological loss or pain that fails to respond to other treatment.

How quickly will I feel a difference?

Many patients notice a meaningful change in the first two to three weeks of the Repair phase, when pressure comes off the irritated structure. Lasting results depend on finishing the Rebuild phase, which corrects the cause. We re-scan along the way so progress is measured rather than guessed.

Is spinal decompression the same as traction?

No. Traction applies a constant pull that the muscles quickly resist. Decompression on the Triton DTS table uses computer-controlled cycles of pull and release that keep the muscles relaxed, which is why it is more precise, usually more comfortable, and better suited to disc and sciatica patterns.

Do you offer same-day appointments for Sunrise patients?

Usually, yes. Same-day appointments are often available at our Coral Springs clinic, about 20 minutes from Sunrise, so back pain treatment in Sunrise can start the week you call. Your first visit is a measurement visit — exam, surface EMG and thermal scans, X-rays when indicated — and your plan and treatment begin on visit two, typically within a few days.

Is there parking at the clinic?

Yes. Free parking is right outside the door at 5675 Coral Ridge Drive — no garage, no meters, no validation. Most Sunrise patients find it simpler than parking near the coast or at a medical tower, and you walk straight into reception.

Which Sunrise neighborhoods do you serve?

All of them. We regularly see patients from Sawgrass Mills, Amerant Bank Arena, Welleby Park and Markham Park and across the 33313, 33322, 33323, 33325 and 33351 ZIP codes. Wherever you are in Sunrise, the drive is about 20 minutes straight up the Sawgrass Expressway, and we schedule follow-ups around your commute.
