Quick answer

The closest clinic for measured, drug-free car accident injury care near Sunrise is The Spine and Wellness Center, 5675 Coral Ridge Drive, Coral Springs, about 20 minutes from Sunrise. The first visit documents and measures the injury — exam, neuro screen, surface EMG and thermal scans, X-rays when indicated; the second is your report of findings, where Most patients have already begun care on visit one; this is where the full plan takes over. We handle Florida PIP paperwork.

Why Sunrise patients choose us for car accident injury treatment

Plenty of Sunrise residents could find a chiropractor closer to home. They make the drive to us for car accident treatment in Sunrise for three practical reasons.

  • It is a straightforward drive. Our clinic at 5675 Coral Ridge Drive is about 20 minutes from Sunrise straight up the Sawgrass Expressway, with free parking at the door. Patients from Sawgrass Mills, Amerant Bank Arena and Welleby Park are here every week.
  • Hours that fit a working week. We are open until 7:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, with Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning hours, so you can come after work or before the commute without using a vacation day.
  • We already know Sunrise. We typically see Sunrise families, hockey fans and arena staff from Amerant Bank Arena, retail and hospitality workers on their feet all day at Sawgrass Mills, and cyclists from Markham Park. Your plan is built around how you actually spend your days, not a generic template.

Why do car accident injuries show up days after the crash?

Nobody plans to need car accident treatment in Sunrise, and the people who do usually underestimate the injury at first. There is a biological reason: the stress hormones released during a crash suppress pain, so the stiff neck, the headache and the ache across the low back often wait a day or two before they announce themselves.

What is actually happening in that window is inflammation. The collision stretched ligaments and joint capsules, loaded discs unevenly and jammed facet joints in the neck and lower back. As the tissues swell and the surrounding muscles tighten to protect them, movement becomes painful and range of motion shrinks — usually peaking between 24 and 72 hours after the crash.

That is also the best window to be examined. Early measurement lets us document the injury while it is fresh and start calming it before it organizes into scar tissue and a chronic pattern. The Spine and Wellness Center has done exactly this for Sunrise families since 2005, led clinically by Dr. Jared Cohen, DC; see our main car accident injury treatment guide for the full approach.

Which injuries do we see most after collisions in Sunrise?

‘Where does it hurt?’ is the wrong first question after a crash, because the spot that hurts today is often not the structure that was injured most. Sunrise patients typically arrive with one or more of these:

  • Neck sprain/strain (whiplash): limited rotation, stiffness that is worst in the morning, and a band of tightness into the shoulders — detailed on our whiplash treatment page.
  • Low back injury: disc loading and facet jamming where the lap belt held the pelvis still; pain with sitting and bending, occasionally into the leg.
  • Sacroiliac sprain: one-sided pain at the belt line, aggravated by stairs and standing up — the braced-leg injury.
  • Headaches: most are cervicogenic, generated by the upper cervical joints, and they resolve as the neck does.
  • Seatbelt and shoulder strain: chest-wall bruising and a painful, guarded shoulder on the side that held the wheel.
  • Concussion: screened on visit one; if signs are present we refer for medical evaluation before spinal care begins.

These injuries overlap, which is why a plan aimed only at the neck or only at the back tends to leave something behind. NINDS describes whiplash symptoms — neck pain and stiffness, headache, dizziness and shoulder or back pain — as sometimes delayed for days (NINDS, Whiplash), and our exam is built to find all of them.

What is car accident treatment in Sunrise like at The Spine and Wellness Center?

Our care after a collision follows the 4R Method: Repair, Rebuild, Regenerate, Refine. Each phase has a job, a visit frequency and a duration, and the timeline below is typical for the whiplash-plus-low-back pattern we see most.

Weeks 1–8 · Repair

The injured joints are inflamed and the muscles are guarding, so we work gently: low-force chiropractic adjustments to restore motion, non-surgical spinal decompression for discs loaded in the crash, and cold laser, ultrasound and electrical muscle stimulation to settle inflammation and spasm. Usually 3–5 visits a week.

Weeks 8–24 · Rebuild

With the pain down, we correct the structure the collision altered — the cervical curve, pelvic balance and the stabilizing muscles — through corrective care, physical therapy and Graston soft-tissue work on the scar tissue in healing ligaments. Usually 2–3 visits a week.

Then · Regenerate and Refine

Red light, PEMF and IHHT oxygen therapy support recovery about twice a week for two months or more, and a brief monthly tune-up keeps the correction. Most Sunrise patients finish with a neck and back that move better than before the crash, not just as well.

What happens at your first two visits — and how does Florida PIP work?

The first appointment after a collision starts by measuring and documenting the injury properly — and, when it’s appropriate, beginning care the same day. A five-minute look and a quick adjustment can neither measure a crash injury properly nor document it.

Visit one: the measurement visit

We start with the collision itself — impact direction, head position, belt and airbag, where you were braced — because each detail predicts a specific injury. Then a hands-on structural exam of the neck, mid-back, low back and pelvis, a neurological screen of reflexes, strength and sensation, and a concussion screen. Surface EMG and thermal scanning map muscle guarding and nerve irritation objectively, and digital X-rays, when indicated after trauma, show alignment, curve loss and anything that needs a medical referral first.

Visit two: findings and plan

Your report of findings with the images in front of you: what was injured, which 4R phase you begin in, visit frequency and expected duration. Treatment begins at this visit.

The 14-day rule

Under Florida’s no-fault statute, Personal Injury Protection benefits require initial medical care within 14 days of the accident (Fla. Stat. 627.736). We complete the PIP paperwork and keep the records your claim needs; we do not provide legal advice and will coordinate with your attorney if you have one.

What should you do in the first week after a crash — and when to see a doctor instead?

What you do in the first seven days shapes how the injury heals. For most Sunrise crash patients, these are the habits that matter:

  • Get examined early. Within a few days, even if you feel mostly fine — the inflammation peaks at 48–72 hours and the PIP clock runs 14 days.
  • Keep moving gently. Short walks and easy range-of-motion beat a soft collar or bed rest; immobilized sprains heal stiff.
  • Ice early, heat later. Ice the neck or back for the first 48 hours of a flare; switch to heat for stiffness afterward.
  • Skip the aggressive stretching and self-cracking. Forcing a sprained joint through end range delays healing.
  • Write things down. Symptoms, sleep, what makes it worse — it helps the exam and your records.

Some symptoms are not chiropractic problems and need medical evaluation the same day: any loss of consciousness, a headache that is getting worse, repeated vomiting, confusion or unusual drowsiness, weakness or numbness spreading in an arm or leg, chest pain or shortness of breath, or loss of bladder or bowel control. If any of these apply, please see a doctor or urgent care today — we will be here for the recovery afterward. Frequently asked questions

Can a low-speed collision really cause an injury?

Yes. Even at parking-lot speeds the head and torso move faster than the neck and back muscles can brace, stretching ligaments and joint capsules and jamming facet joints. Vehicle damage is a poor guide to tissue injury. The pattern of stiffness, headaches and low back pain that follows a minor collision is the same one we treat after larger crashes.

Do I need to see a medical doctor before a chiropractor after a crash?

Not usually, but there are exceptions. If you lost consciousness, have a worsening headache, vomiting, confusion, spreading weakness or numbness, chest pain or breathing trouble, please see a doctor or urgent care today. Otherwise you can come straight to us; our first visit includes a neurological and concussion screen and we refer immediately if anything needs medical evaluation first.

Should I see a chiropractor after a car accident if I feel fine?

Yes, within a few days. Adrenaline masks pain at the scene, and whiplash, low back and headache symptoms commonly surface 24 to 72 hours later. An early exam measures and documents the injury while it is clearest, and Florida's PIP benefits require initial care within 14 days of the crash. If signs of concussion or other urgent problems are present, we refer you for medical evaluation first.

Do you offer same-day appointments for Sunrise patients?
