Quick answer

Sciatica treatment near Sunrise is available at The Spine and Wellness Center, 5675 Coral Ridge Drive, Coral Springs — about 20 minutes from Sunrise. Your first visit is a measurement visit: hands-on exam with nerve-tension tests, surface EMG and thermal scans, and X-rays when indicated. Treatment, usually non-surgical spinal decompression on the Triton DTS table, usually starts on visit one; your full plan follows at visit two.

Why Sunrise patients choose us for sciatica treatment

The Spine and Wellness Center has cared for Sunrise families since 2005. Here is why they keep choosing us for sciatica treatment in Sunrise rather than a clinic down the street.

  • Close enough to be routine. The clinic is about 20 minutes from Sunrise straight up the Sawgrass Expressway. Free parking is at the door, and we schedule follow-ups around your commute so the drive stays a non-issue.
  • Hours built for working people. Open until 7:00 pm three evenings a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday), plus Wednesday afternoons and Friday mornings.
  • Care that fits Sunrise life. We regularly treat Sunrise families, hockey fans and arena staff from Amerant Bank Arena, retail and hospitality workers on their feet all day at Sawgrass Mills, and cyclists from Markham Park. That experience shapes everything from the exam to the home-care plan.

What is actually pressing on the sciatic nerve?

Good sciatica treatment in Sunrise starts with an uncomfortable truth: sciatica is not a diagnosis. It is a symptom — pain, tingling or numbness that runs from the low back or buttock down the back of one leg, often below the knee — and it means one of the nerve roots that form the sciatic nerve is being irritated somewhere. Finding where is the whole job.

At our Coral Springs clinic, about 20 minutes from Sunrise, three sources account for most of the sciatica we see. A bulging or herniated disc at L4–L5 or L5–S1 pressing on the nerve root beside it is by far the most common. Narrowing of the foramen — the bony opening the nerve exits through — from disc thinning or arthritic change is the second, and shows up more often after 50. The piriformis muscle, which the sciatic nerve passes beside deep in the buttock, is the third and tends to mimic a disc without any back pain at all.

Each one needs a different plan. Decompression helps a disc; it does little for a tight piriformis. That is why Dr. Jared Cohen, DC built our process around measurement first, and why the broader context in our lower back pain relief and herniated disc guides is worth a read before your visit.

Is it sciatica, or is it the hip or SI joint?

Before you assume sciatica, consider the neighbors. Three other structures sit within a few inches of the sciatic nerve and produce buttock and leg pain that gets mislabeled constantly: the sacroiliac joint, the hip joint and the piriformis muscle. Among Sunrise patients who arrive convinced they have sciatica, a meaningful share actually have one of these.

The clue is the map. Nerve-root sciatica follows a strip down the back of the leg, often below the knee, and brings tingling, numbness or weakness with it. SI joint pain stays low and one-sided, over the dimple at the base of the spine, and flares when you stand up from a chair or roll over in bed. Hip joint pain lives in the groin or the outer hip and hurts with walking and shoes. Piriformis pain starts deep in the buttock, with almost no back pain, and hates hard seats and long drives.

On visit one we test the nerve directly — straight-leg raise, slump test, reflexes, strength and sensation — alongside provocation tests for the SI joint and hip, so the plan targets the real driver. For hip-centered, one-sided pain, read our hip and SI joint guide; the two problems are often treated together. It is the difference between generic leg-pain care and sciatica treatment in Sunrise that targets the right structure.

What is sciatica treatment in Sunrise like at The Spine and Wellness Center?

Our care runs in the sequence the body heals: the 4R Method — Repair, Rebuild, Regenerate, Refine. Skipping to strengthening while a nerve is still compressed is the most common reason sciatica care fails, so we never do it.

Phase 1 · Repair

The job is to get pressure off the nerve root. For disc patterns we use non-surgical spinal decompression on the Triton DTS table — not traction, which pulls constantly and makes the muscles fight back, but computer-controlled cycles of pull and release that lower pressure inside the disc so the herniation can retract and the disc can rehydrate. Sessions run about 20 minutes. Precise adjustments and cold laser round out the phase. Most patients notice a change in the leg within two to three weeks of a 3–5-visit-a-week schedule, over 4–8 weeks.

Phase 2 · Rebuild

With the leg calm, we correct the structure that overloaded the disc — lumbar curve, pelvic balance and the deep core — using corrective care, physical therapy and soft-tissue work on the piriformis and hip rotators. 2–3 visits a week for 8–16 weeks.

Phases 3 and 4 · Regenerate and Refine

Red light, PEMF and IHHT support nerve and disc recovery about twice a week for two months or more; then a brief monthly tune-up protects the result.

What happens at your first two visits?

The first appointment is built around a proper examination — and, when it’s appropriate, your care starts the same day. Treating a leg symptom without knowing which structure is compressing the nerve is how sciatica gets managed for years instead of resolved.

Visit one: measurement

Expect a proper conversation about where the pain travels and what provokes it, then a hands-on exam built around the nerve: straight-leg raise and slump tests, reflexes, strength and sensation down the leg, plus provocation tests for the SI joint and hip so we can rule them in or out. Surface EMG and thermal scanning along the spine then map muscle guarding and likely nerve irritation in a way we can re-scan later. If the exam calls for it, digital X-rays show disc spacing, alignment and any narrowing where the nerve exits. Bring any MRI you have; we will read it with you.

Visit two: your report of findings

We sit down with your images and scans and explain what is irritating the nerve, which 4R phase you start in, how often you will come and for how long. Then Most patients have already begun care on visit one; this is where the full plan takes over. If you would rather arrive informed, the 60-second spine assessment gives us your Spine Score and likely pattern before you leave Sunrise.

What helps sciatica at home — and when to see a doctor instead

What you do in the 23 hours a day you are not with us decides how fast the nerve settles. For most Sunrise patients, these habits matter most:

  • Keep walking. Ten minutes, two or three times a day. Movement keeps the nerve gliding and the disc hydrated without loading it.
  • Skip the stretch videos for now. Deep forward bends and hamstring pulls tension an already irritated nerve. Gentle nerve glides come later in the plan, when the leg is ready.
  • Reset your sitting. Sitting loads the lumbar disc more than standing. Set a timer; stand every half hour, and add lumbar support in the car.
  • Choose your sleep position. Side-lying with a pillow between the knees unloads the disc and the pelvis.
  • Ice, then heat. Ice the low back — not the leg — for the first two days of a flare; heat for stiffness after that.

Some signs mean the nerve needs a physician the same day, not a chiropractor: new bladder or bowel changes, numbness in the saddle area, rapidly progressing leg or foot weakness, or symptoms after a significant fall or crash. In those cases please see a doctor or urgent care today. Otherwise, you are in the right place: according to NINDS, most sciatica improves with conservative treatment, and surgery is generally reserved for progressive neurological loss or pain that does not respond to other care (NINDS, Back Pain).

Frequently asked questions

Can sciatica be treated without surgery?

In most cases, yes. The majority of sciatica — including many herniated discs — improves with conservative care. Non-surgical spinal decompression takes pressure off the nerve root, precise adjustments restore motion at the involved segments, and rehab corrects the cause. Surgery is generally reserved for progressive neurological loss or pain that does not respond to other treatment.

How long does sciatica take to improve?

Many patients notice the leg symptoms easing within the first two to three weeks of the Repair phase, when pressure comes off the nerve. Lasting results depend on finishing the Rebuild phase, which corrects the disc loading and pelvic imbalance that caused it. We re-test the nerve and re-scan along the way so progress is measured.

Is spinal decompression the same as traction?

No. Traction applies a constant pull that the back muscles quickly resist. Decompression on the Triton DTS table uses computer-controlled cycles of pull and release that keep the muscles relaxed, which is why it reaches the disc, is usually comfortable, and works for disc-driven sciatica where simple traction often does not.

Do you offer same-day appointments for Sunrise patients?

Usually, yes. Same-day appointments are often available at our Coral Springs clinic, about 20 minutes from Sunrise, so sciatica treatment in Sunrise can start the week you call. Your first visit is a measurement visit — exam, surface EMG and thermal scans, X-rays when indicated — and your plan and treatment begin on visit two, typically within a few days.

Is there parking at the clinic?

Yes. Free parking is right outside the door at 5675 Coral Ridge Drive — no garage, no meters, no validation. Most Sunrise patients find it simpler than parking near the coast or at a medical tower, and you walk straight into reception.

Which Sunrise neighborhoods do you serve?

All of them. We regularly see patients from Sawgrass Mills, Amerant Bank Arena, Welleby Park and Markham Park and across the 33313, 33322, 33323, 33325 and 33351 ZIP codes. Wherever you are in Sunrise, the drive is about 20 minutes straight up the Sawgrass Expressway, and we schedule follow-ups around your commute.
