Quick answer

Sunrise residents get headache and migraine treatment at The Spine and Wellness Center, 5675 Coral Ridge Drive in Coral Springs, about 20 minutes away. Visit one measures the neck and posture — exam, surface EMG and thermal scanning, X-rays when indicated. Visit two is your full findings and plan, and the full plan is set, typically with gentle upper-cervical adjustments, soft-tissue work and posture rehab.

Why Sunrise patients choose us for headache and migraine treatment

Plenty of Sunrise residents could find a chiropractor closer to home. They make the drive to us for headache treatment in Sunrise for three practical reasons.

  • It is a straightforward drive. Our clinic at 5675 Coral Ridge Drive is about 20 minutes from Sunrise straight up the Sawgrass Expressway, with free parking at the door. Patients from Sawgrass Mills, Amerant Bank Arena and Welleby Park are here every week.
  • Hours that fit a working week. We are open until 7:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, with Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning hours, so you can come after work or before the commute without using a vacation day.
  • We already know Sunrise. We typically see Sunrise families, hockey fans and arena staff from Amerant Bank Arena, retail and hospitality workers on their feet all day at Sawgrass Mills, and cyclists from Markham Park. Your plan is built around how you actually spend your days, not a generic template.

Why do my headaches keep coming back?

Headache treatment in Sunrise should not mean a stronger pill every year. It should mean a clear answer about what is producing the headache — and for a surprising number of people the answer is the upper neck. The small joints and deep muscles between the skull and C3 can refer pain into the head so convincingly that it is diagnosed as migraine or tension headache for years.

In our experience, headaches that keep returning almost always point to a structure that was never corrected: an upper-cervical joint that lost its motion, suboccipital muscles that never stop guarding, or a forward-head posture that loads the neck for eight hours a day at a desk or behind the wheel. Stress and poor sleep lower the threshold, but the structural driver is what makes the headache repeatable.

The Spine and Wellness Center has served Sunrise and the surrounding communities since 2005. Dr. Jared Cohen, DC built our process around measurement — surface EMG, thermal scanning and digital X-rays when indicated — so the plan is based on your actual neck. Our main headache treatment page explains the full method; this page covers what matters for Sunrise patients.

Is it a cervicogenic headache, a tension headache, or a migraine?

The three overlap, and many people have more than one. The pattern of your headache usually tells us which structure to examine first:

  • Cervicogenic headache: starts at the base of the skull or one side of the neck and spreads forward to the temple, forehead or behind the eye; usually one-sided; worse with neck movement, sustained postures or pressure at the top of the neck. Often paired with reduced neck motion.
  • Tension-type headache: a dull, band-like pressure around both sides of the head that builds through the day; tight upper trapezius and suboccipital muscles; linked to desk work, stress and poor sleep.
  • Migraine: moderate to severe, often throbbing, usually one-sided, with nausea or sensitivity to light and sound; may come with an aura. Neck pain is a common feature before and during attacks, and neck tension can be a trigger.
  • Mixed pattern: the most common presentation we see — a neck-driven headache most days with occasional migraine on top.

Why it matters: if the upper cervical spine is contributing, treating it reduces headache frequency regardless of the label. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke notes that tension-type headaches are the most common type and that posture and muscle tension are frequent contributors (NINDS, Headache). We work on that contributor directly, alongside the triggers you can control.

What is headache treatment in Sunrise like at The Spine and Wellness Center?

Our headache treatment in Sunrise follows the body’s healing sequence — the 4R Method: Repair, Rebuild, Regenerate, Refine. Headaches respond to it particularly well because the generator is small, specific and measurable.

Phase 1 · Repair (3–5 visits a week, 4–8 weeks)

The locked joints at C1–C3 get gentle, specific adjustments; the suboccipital and upper-trapezius muscles get soft-tissue work and Graston Technique; irritated tissue gets cold laser. If a cervical disc is loading a nerve, decompression on the Triton DTS table takes the pressure off. Most people notice fewer headache days within two to three weeks.

Phase 2 · Rebuild (2–3 visits a week, 8–16 weeks)

With the generator quiet, we correct what produced it: the cervical curve, forward-head posture and the deep stabilizers that went offline. Posture correction, corrective care and physical therapy do the heavy lifting.

Phases 3 and 4 · Regenerate and Refine

Regenerate layers in red light, PEMF and BrainTap to support recovery, sleep and stress — the triggers that most often tip a tense neck into a migraine — usually twice a week for two or more months. Refine keeps the result with a brief monthly tune-up.

What happens at your first two visits?

The first appointment is built around a proper examination — and, when it’s appropriate, your care starts the same day. Headaches are treated badly when the neck is adjusted before anyone has confirmed the neck is the problem.

Visit one: measurement

Expect a proper conversation about your headache history, triggers, sleep and screen habits, then a hands-on exam: posture, upper-cervical motion, palpation of the joints and muscles under the skull, tests that reproduce or ease the headache, and a neurological screen. We follow that with surface EMG and thermal scanning along the spine, which maps the muscle guarding and likely nerve irritation in a way we can re-scan later. If the exam calls for it, digital X-rays show the cervical curve and upper-cervical alignment underneath.

Visit two: your report of findings

We sit down with your images and scans and explain what is driving the headaches, which 4R phase you start in, how often you will come and for how long. Then Most patients have already begun care on visit one; this is where the full plan takes over. If you would rather arrive informed, the 60-second spine assessment gives us your Spine Score and likely pattern before you leave Sunrise.

What helps between visits — and when a headache needs a doctor instead

What you do between appointments decides how fast the headache days fall. For most Sunrise patients, these habits make the biggest difference:

  • Chin tucks, not pain relievers. A few gentle chin tucks several times a day wake up the deep neck flexors and unload the joints under the skull.
  • Eye-level everything. Monitor, laptop and phone at eye height; forward-head posture is the quiet daily load behind cervicogenic headaches.
  • Reset on the drive. Headrest touching the back of the head, shoulders down, a minute of neck movement at every stop.
  • Regular sleep, regular meals, water. The three triggers most people can control, and the three most often skipped.
  • Heat on the neck, not the head. Warmth on the suboccipitals and upper traps eases the guarding that feeds a tension pattern.

Some headaches mean something other than the neck is going on and need a physician the same day: a thunderclap headache that peaks within a minute, headache with fever and a neck too stiff to flex, headache after a blow to the head, headache with weakness, numbness, confusion or vision changes, or a brand-new pattern after age 50. In those cases please see a doctor or urgent care today. Otherwise, you are in the right place — and our guides to neck pain treatment and chiropractic care are a good next read.

We do not have a published review from a Sunrise patient yet, so here is one from a Coral Springs patient — the same clinic and the same team you would see:

“I was dealing with ongoing elbow and shoulder pain affecting my daily routine and workouts. The treatment plan felt personalized — over the months I’ve noticed steady progress: less pain, better mobility, feeling stronger.”

Frequently asked questions

Will I be treated on my first visit?

Your first visit is a measurement visit: conversation, structural exam, scans and X-rays when indicated. Visit two is your report of findings, where we explain what we found and your plan —, and the full plan is set there. Measuring first is what makes the plan accurate.

Do I need to stop my headache medication?

No. Keep following your physician's advice. Our care addresses the structural contributor — the upper neck and posture — alongside whatever medical care you use. As headache days fall, many patients find they reach for medication less often; we flag frequent pain-reliever use because it can itself sustain a daily headache.

What is BrainTap and why is it part of headache care?

BrainTap is a guided light-and-sound session that supports relaxation and sleep regulation. We use it in the Regenerate phase because stress and poor sleep lower the headache threshold; it complements — never replaces — the hands-on upper-cervical and posture work that addresses the structural cause.

Do you offer same-day appointments for Sunrise patients?

Usually, yes. Same-day appointments are often available at our Coral Springs clinic, about 20 minutes from Sunrise, so headache treatment in Sunrise can start the week you call. Your first visit is a measurement visit — exam, surface EMG and thermal scans, X-rays when indicated — and your plan and treatment begin on visit two, typically within a few days.

Is there parking at the clinic?

Yes. Free parking is right outside the door at 5675 Coral Ridge Drive — no garage, no meters, no validation. Most Sunrise patients find it simpler than parking near the coast or at a medical tower, and you walk straight into reception.

Which Sunrise neighborhoods do you serve?

All of them. We regularly see patients from Sawgrass Mills, Amerant Bank Arena, Welleby Park and Markham Park and across the 33313, 33322, 33323, 33325 and 33351 ZIP codes. Wherever you are in Sunrise, the drive is about 20 minutes straight up the Sawgrass Expressway, and we schedule follow-ups around your commute.
