Quick answer

Headache and migraine treatment near Boca Raton is available at The Spine and Wellness Center, 5675 Coral Ridge Drive, Coral Springs — about 20 to 25 minutes from Boca Raton. Your first visit is a measurement visit: hands-on upper-cervical and posture exam, surface EMG and thermal scans, and X-rays when indicated. Treatment, including gentle upper-cervical adjustments and posture correction, usually starts on visit one; your full plan follows at visit two.

Why Boca Raton patients choose us for headache and migraine treatment

Plenty of Boca Raton residents could find a chiropractor closer to home. They make the drive to us for headache treatment in Boca Raton for three practical reasons.

  • It is a straightforward drive. Our clinic at 5675 Coral Ridge Drive is about 20 to 25 minutes from Boca Raton via the Sawgrass Expressway and Hillsboro Boulevard, or Glades Road to US-441, with free parking at the door. Patients from Mizner Park, Town Center at Boca Raton and Boca West are here every week.
  • Hours that fit a working week. We are open until 7:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, with Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning hours, so you can come after work or before the commute without using a vacation day.
  • We already know Boca Raton. We typically see Boca Raton golfers and tennis players from Boca West and Broken Sound, retirees who want to stay active, FAU students and staff, and I-95 commuters. Your plan is built around how you actually spend your days, not a generic template.

Why do my headaches keep coming back?

Effective headache treatment in Boca Raton starts with a question most people are never asked: where does the headache actually begin? A large share of recurring headaches — and a meaningful number of migraines — start in the upper neck. The joints and muscles at the top of the cervical spine (C1 to C3) share nerve pathways with the head, so irritation there is felt at the base of the skull, behind the eye or across the forehead.

At The Spine and Wellness Center, about 20 to 25 minutes from Boca Raton, we see the same drivers repeatedly: forward-head posture from screens and the commute, locked upper-cervical joints, tight suboccipital muscles under the skull, and a neck that never recovered from an old collision. Pain relievers quiet the signal for a few hours. They do nothing for the structure sending it, which is why the headaches return on schedule.

Dr. Jared Cohen, DC has led our clinical team since 2005, and headaches are treated the same way as every other spine problem here: measure first, identify the generator, then treat it in the right order. For the broader picture, start with our main headache treatment guide.

Is it a cervicogenic headache, a tension headache, or a migraine?

The three overlap, and many people have more than one. The pattern of your headache usually tells us which structure to examine first:

  • Cervicogenic headache: starts at the base of the skull or one side of the neck and spreads forward to the temple, forehead or behind the eye; usually one-sided; worse with neck movement, sustained postures or pressure at the top of the neck. Often paired with reduced neck motion.
  • Tension-type headache: a dull, band-like pressure around both sides of the head that builds through the day; tight upper trapezius and suboccipital muscles; linked to desk work, stress and poor sleep.
  • Migraine: moderate to severe, often throbbing, usually one-sided, with nausea or sensitivity to light and sound; may come with an aura. Neck pain is a common feature before and during attacks, and neck tension can be a trigger.
  • Mixed pattern: the most common presentation we see — a neck-driven headache most days with occasional migraine on top.

Why it matters: if the upper cervical spine is contributing, treating it reduces headache frequency regardless of the label. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke notes that tension-type headaches are the most common type and that posture and muscle tension are frequent contributors (NINDS, Headache). We work on that contributor directly, alongside the triggers you can control.

What is headache treatment in Boca Raton like at The Spine and Wellness Center?

Our headache treatment in Boca Raton follows the body’s healing sequence — the 4R Method: Repair, Rebuild, Regenerate, Refine. Headaches respond to it particularly well because the generator is small, specific and measurable.

Phase 1 · Repair (3–5 visits a week, 4–8 weeks)

The locked joints at C1–C3 get gentle, specific adjustments; the suboccipital and upper-trapezius muscles get soft-tissue work and Graston Technique; irritated tissue gets cold laser. If a cervical disc is loading a nerve, decompression on the Triton DTS table takes the pressure off. Most people notice fewer headache days within two to three weeks.

Phase 2 · Rebuild (2–3 visits a week, 8–16 weeks)

With the generator quiet, we correct what produced it: the cervical curve, forward-head posture and the deep stabilizers that went offline. Posture correction, corrective care and physical therapy do the heavy lifting.

Phases 3 and 4 · Regenerate and Refine

Regenerate layers in red light, PEMF and BrainTap to support recovery, sleep and stress — the triggers that most often tip a tense neck into a migraine — usually twice a week for two or more months. Refine keeps the result with a brief monthly tune-up.

What happens at your first two visits?

We measure before we treat, so your plan is built on your actual neck and posture rather than a guess. Here is how the first two appointments run for Boca Raton patients:

Visit one — we measure (and usually begin care)

  1. A real conversation. Headache location, frequency, triggers, sleep, screen and driving habits, old injuries, and what you have already tried.
  2. A hands-on structural exam. Head and shoulder posture, upper-cervical motion, palpation of the joints and suboccipital muscles under the skull, orthopedic tests that reproduce or relieve the headache, and a neurological screen.
  3. Surface EMG and thermal scanning. A painless scan that shows upper-trapezius and suboccipital guarding and where nerve irritation is likely — objective, and re-scannable to track headache days against muscle activity.
  4. Digital X-rays, when indicated. The cervical curve, upper-cervical alignment and disc spacing. We also review any imaging you already have.

Visit two — findings and plan

Everything explained in plain English with your scans and images in front of you, mapped to the four phases of the 4R Method: what we found, what we recommend, and how long it should take. Your full plan starts here — and in most cases care already began on visit one. For a head start, take the 60-second spine assessment before you drive in from Boca Raton.

What helps between visits — and when a headache needs a doctor instead

What you do between appointments decides how fast the headache days fall. For most Boca Raton patients, these habits make the biggest difference:

  • Chin tucks, not pain relievers. A few gentle chin tucks several times a day wake up the deep neck flexors and unload the joints under the skull.
  • Eye-level everything. Monitor, laptop and phone at eye height; forward-head posture is the quiet daily load behind cervicogenic headaches.
  • Reset on the drive. Headrest touching the back of the head, shoulders down, a minute of neck movement at every stop.
  • Regular sleep, regular meals, water. The three triggers most people can control, and the three most often skipped.
  • Heat on the neck, not the head. Warmth on the suboccipitals and upper traps eases the guarding that feeds a tension pattern.

Some headaches mean something other than the neck is going on and need a physician the same day: a thunderclap headache that peaks within a minute, headache with fever and a neck too stiff to flex, headache after a blow to the head, headache with weakness, numbness, confusion or vision changes, or a brand-new pattern after age 50. In those cases please see a doctor or urgent care today. Otherwise, you are in the right place — and our guides to neck pain treatment and chiropractic care are a good next read.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my headaches come from my neck?

Cervicogenic headaches usually start at the base of the skull or one side of the neck and spread forward, are one-sided, and get worse with neck movement, sustained postures or pressure at the top of the neck. Limited upper-cervical rotation on exam is the hallmark. The tests on your first visit are designed to reproduce or relieve the headache from the neck.

How quickly will my headaches improve?

Many patients notice fewer headache days within the first two to three weeks of the Repair phase, once the upper-cervical joints move and the suboccipital muscles stop guarding. Lasting change depends on finishing the Rebuild phase, which corrects posture and the cervical curve. We track headache days against re-scans so progress is measured.

Is adjusting the upper neck safe?

Upper-cervical adjustments at our clinic are gentle, specific and low-force, chosen only after a full exam, scans and X-rays when indicated. We never adjust a segment we have not measured, and the exam on visit one tells us what is appropriate for your neck.

Do you offer same-day appointments for Boca Raton patients?

Usually, yes. Same-day appointments are often available at our Coral Springs clinic, about 20 to 25 minutes from Boca Raton, so headache treatment in Boca Raton can start the week you call. Your first visit is a measurement visit — exam, surface EMG and thermal scans, X-rays when indicated — and your plan and treatment begin on visit two, typically within a few days.
