Herniated Disc Treatment in Coconut Creek, FL
Non-surgical disc care on the Triton DTS table at The Spine and Wellness Center, about 15 minutes from Coconut Creek via Wiles Road or the Sawgrass Expressway to Lyons Road — same-day appointments usually available.
Quick answer
Herniated disc treatment near Coconut Creek is available at The Spine and Wellness Center, 5675 Coral Ridge Drive, Coral Springs — about 15 minutes from Coconut Creek. Your first visit is a measurement visit: hands-on exam with nerve testing, surface EMG and thermal scans, and X-rays when indicated. Treatment, centered on non-surgical spinal decompression on the Triton DTS table, usually starts on visit one; your full plan follows at visit two.
Why Coconut Creek patients choose us for herniated disc treatment
Plenty of Coconut Creek residents could find a chiropractor closer to home. They make the drive to us for herniated disc treatment in Coconut Creek for three practical reasons.
- It is a straightforward drive. Our clinic at 5675 Coral Ridge Drive is about 15 minutes from Coconut Creek via Wiles Road or the Sawgrass Expressway to Lyons Road, with free parking at the door. Patients from the Promenade at Coconut Creek, Wynmoor Village and Tradewinds Park are here every week.
- Hours that fit a working week. We are open until 7:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, with Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning hours, so you can come after work or before the commute without using a vacation day.
- We already know Coconut Creek. We typically see Coconut Creek families, active retirees from Wynmoor, pickleball and golf regulars, and people who walk and ride at Tradewinds Park. Your plan is built around how you actually spend your days, not a generic template.
What is a herniated disc, and how is it different from a bulge?
If you are searching for herniated disc treatment in Coconut Creek, you have probably been handed a label — bulging, slipped, herniated, ruptured — without much explanation. They are not the same thing. Think of the disc as a jelly doughnut between two vertebrae: a bulge is the doughnut flattening and spreading; a herniation is jelly pushing through a crack in the dough; a sequestration is a piece of jelly breaking off entirely.
- Bulge: the outer ring sags but stays intact. Common after 40, often painless, sometimes irritating a nerve when the canal is already tight.
- Herniation (protrusion or extrusion): the nucleus pushes through a tear in the ring and presses on the nerve root. The classic cause of sciatica from a lumbar disc or arm pain from a cervical one.
- Sequestration: a free fragment separates from the disc. Sounds worse, but free fragments are often reabsorbed by the body over months.
What they share is pressure on a nerve plus chemical irritation from the leaked material. Both respond to the same principle: give the disc room and time rather than trying to force it back. Since 2005, that has been the foundation of our care under Dr. Jared Cohen, DC. The full anatomy lives in our herniated disc guide.

Why the disc needs room and time, not a push
A herniated disc cannot be popped back into place. The nucleus that pushed through the ring is not a dislocated joint; it is soft material under pressure. What it responds to is a drop in that pressure. That is what non-surgical spinal decompression provides.
On the Triton DTS table, computer-controlled cycles of pull and release gently separate the two vertebrae around the disc. Each cycle lowers the pressure inside the disc — toward negative — which draws the herniated material inward, away from the nerve, and pulls fluid and nutrients back into a disc that has no blood supply of its own. Over a series of sessions the disc rehydrates and the herniation retracts. Sessions last about 20 minutes, and most patients find them comfortable enough to relax through.
The evidence supports patience over surgery. According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, most people with a herniated lumbar disc improve with nonsurgical treatment over a period of weeks to months, and surgery is considered only when symptoms persist or progressive weakness develops (AAOS OrthoInfo, Herniated Disk in the Lower Back). Decompression inside a structured plan is how we make that window work.
What is herniated disc treatment in Coconut Creek like at The Spine and Wellness Center?
Our care runs in the sequence the disc heals: the 4R Method — Repair, Rebuild, Regenerate, Refine. Strengthening a spine while a disc is still pressing on a nerve is the most common reason disc care fails, so we never start there.
Phase 1 · Repair
The job is to get the herniation off the nerve. Decompression on the Triton DTS table does that — about 20 minutes per session, 3–5 times a week for 4–8 weeks — with precise adjustments at the segments around the disc and cold laser for inflammation. Lumbar discs are treated with the table configured for the low back; cervical discs with the neck configuration, as described in our neck pain treatment guide.
Phase 2 · Rebuild
With the nerve calm, we correct the structure that overloaded the disc — the spinal curve, the pelvis and the deep stabilizers — using corrective care, physical therapy and soft-tissue work. 2–3 visits a week for 8–16 weeks.
Phases 3 and 4 · Regenerate and Refine
Red light, PEMF and IHHT support disc and nerve recovery about twice a week for two months or more; a brief monthly tune-up then protects the result. The lumbar companion read is our lower back pain relief guide.
Do I need an MRI? What happens at your first two visits
An MRI shows a disc beautifully, but it does not tell us whether that disc is the one causing your symptoms — many people have herniations on imaging with no pain at all. The exam does. We measure before we treat, so your plan is built on your actual structure and your actual symptoms.
Visit one — we measure (and usually begin care)
- A real conversation. Where the pain starts and where it travels, what makes it worse, what you have tried, and what you want to get back to.
- A hands-on structural and nerve exam. Posture, range of motion, orthopedic tests that isolate the disc, nerve-tension tests, and a neurological screen of reflexes, strength and sensation that tells us which nerve root is involved and how much.
- Surface EMG and thermal scanning. A painless scan along the spine that shows where muscles are guarding and where nerve irritation is likely — objective, and re-scannable to track progress.
- Digital X-rays, when indicated. Disc spacing, curvature and alignment. Bring any MRI you have; we will read it with you and correlate it with the exam.
Visit two — findings and plan
Everything explained in plain English with your scans and images in front of you, mapped to the 4R phases: which disc, which nerve, what we recommend and how long it should take. Your full plan starts here — and in most cases care already began on visit one. For a head start, take the 60-second spine assessment before you drive in from Coconut Creek.

What helps a herniated disc at home — and when to see a doctor instead
What you do in the 23 hours a day you are not with us decides how fast the disc retracts. For most Coconut Creek patients, these habits make the biggest difference:
- Keep walking. Ten minutes, two or three times a day, on level ground. Movement feeds the disc without loading it.
- Reset your sitting. Set a timer and stand every half hour; add lumbar support on the commute. Sitting loads a lumbar disc more than any other everyday position.
- Lift with the hips. Load close, spine neutral, hinge at the hips — groceries, golf bags and toddlers included.
- Skip the stretch videos for now. Deep forward bends and twisting stretches push disc material toward the nerve. The right movements come at the right stage of your plan.
- Choose your sleep position. Side-lying with a pillow between the knees unloads the lumbar disc; a level pillow protects a cervical one.
Some signs mean the nerve needs a physician the same day, not a chiropractor: new bladder or bowel changes, numbness in the saddle area, rapidly progressing weakness in a limb, or symptoms following a significant fall or crash. In those cases please see a doctor or urgent care today. Otherwise, the aching, the sciatica and the disc you were told might need surgery are what we treat all day.

Frequently asked questions
Is spinal decompression the same as traction?
No. Traction applies a constant pull that the back muscles quickly resist. Decompression on the Triton DTS table uses computer-controlled cycles of pull and release that keep the muscles relaxed, so the force reaches the disc and creates the negative pressure that draws the herniation inward. It is more precise and usually more comfortable.
Do I need an MRI before my first visit?
No. Bring any imaging you already have and we will correlate it with the exam, but a herniation on a scan is common in people with no symptoms. The hands-on exam, neurological screen, surface EMG and thermal scanning, and digital X-rays when indicated on visit one are usually enough to identify the disc and nerve involved and build a plan.
Will I be treated on my first visit?
Your first visit is a measurement visit: conversation, hands-on structural and nerve exam, scans and X-rays when indicated. Visit two is your report of findings, where we explain which disc and nerve are involved and your plan —, and the full plan is set there. Measuring first is what makes the plan accurate.
Do you offer same-day appointments for Coconut Creek patients?
Usually, yes. Same-day appointments are often available at our Coral Springs clinic, about 15 minutes from Coconut Creek, so herniated disc treatment in Coconut Creek can start the week you call. Your first visit is a measurement visit — exam, surface EMG and thermal scans, X-rays when indicated — and your plan and treatment begin on visit two, typically within a few days.
Is there parking at the clinic?
Yes. Free parking is right outside the door at 5675 Coral Ridge Drive — no garage, no meters, no validation. Most Coconut Creek patients find it simpler than parking near the coast or at a medical tower, and you walk straight into reception.
Which Coconut Creek neighborhoods do you serve?
All of them. We regularly see patients from the Promenade at Coconut Creek, Wynmoor Village, Tradewinds Park and Butterfly World and across the 33063, 33066 and 33073 ZIP codes. Wherever you are in Coconut Creek, the drive is about 15 minutes via Wiles Road or the Sawgrass Expressway to Lyons Road, and we schedule follow-ups around your commute.
